Monday the plumbers finished the new sewer line and covered it. Now that sounds like a simple enough task--you dug a trench, now put the dirt back in. Oh no, it doesn't work that way. Every clod of dirt had to be crushed, pulverized and crunched to it's smallest form. Every bit of dirt that went back into the trench was compacted to make it match the rest of the dirt in the new Commons area. It has to be smashed so the slab in the Commons will remain intact. Below you see the machine that was used to trench the ditch now being used to compact the soil.
Today the concrete people returned to pour more footings and get the area ready for the slab. On one hand I was mildly amused to find one of the workers on his knees "pondering" (to use Jerry's favorite word) his situation. On the other hand I found it deeply significant that our workers would be on their knees as they construct our new Commons. (Oh yes, I'm sure all the workers are praying while on their knees! Or is it "preying" while on their knees?) This needs to be a reminder to the rest of us to bathe this project in prayer and ask The Father to use this facility to advance His kingdom.
