Sunday Jerry will be preaching on the topic “He Speaks Truth.” This is the third sermon in the Knowing God series. Dr. J.I. Packer in Knowing God reminds us of two facts in regard to this subject: 1) God is the King of the universe; 2) He speaks.

            As King, God rules and has established regulations and laws under which His subjects are to live. For us to know these laws and regulations, He has to speak to us. So, God speaks to instruct us in how we are to live. And God also speaks so that we might know Him. As our Maker, He already knows all there is to know about us before we say anything. We can know nothing about Him unless He tells us. God speaks so we may know and love Him. When we listen to Him, we discover His words are true. We ought to believe and obey God’s words, not only because He tells us to, but also because His words are true—AND THEY WORK. Biblical truth is a quality of the person speaking. God is a person of truth; in this sense it is His nature, and He has not got it in Him to be anything else. He cannot lie.
