Here's a recap of the sermon from June 7. Most USAmerica people know about God, but a much smaller precentage actually know God. We really don't know someone unless they open themselves to us and reveal their innermost thoughts and plans. God has opened Himself to us and desires for us to know Him. In fact, He's much more eager for us to know Him than we are eager to get to know Him. But if you will take the time to allow Him to speak to you, amazing discoveries will be yours. We began the series on Knowing God by dealing with "He's Consistent." Our world is changing so rapidly--technology changes at the speed of light--governments change--even the enforcing of the rules in sports changes based upon the referee/umpire. 1 Samuel 15:29 says, "He who is the Glory of Israel does not lie or change His mind; for He is not a man, that He should change His mind." This tells us 1. God is Consistent in His Standards. We have to change our minds--we make mistakes. Not God--He never makes a mistake. He doesn't change His mind. When we read Micah 6:8, we know it's still true: "He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." 1 Samuel 15:22 gives us insight into God's standards: "Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams." 2. God Won't Lead You Astray. James 1:13 reads, " Let no say when he is tempted, 'I am being tempted by God;' for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone." There are some things you don't need to pray about, such as leaving your spouse for a younger, more attractive one. Don't pray about purchasing an item you cannot afford. God won't lead you to go contrary to His word. Honor your vows to your spouse, practice good stewardship. 3. God Gives Only Good to His Children. James 1:17 tells us, "Every good thing bestowed and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation, or shifting shadow." God keeps on giving us the things that are for our benefit. These are some of the basic, fundamental truths about God--He is Consistent. |
